As soon as the address is generated, a countdown starts, that means it's active from this point on and receives all incoming messages quite normally in real-time. Thanks to the countdown you also always have an overview of how much time you have left. The time span of ten minutes was chosen quite consciously, because in most cases where you have to provide an email address, it's about immediate or at least timely communication. Whether download access, confirmation email, a login link or a one-time code, ten minutes are almost always completely sufficient for it. Frequently the message reaches you even after just a few seconds. This extremely short communication can become really annoying for you in the long term though, because often it's connected with permanent spam and advertising emails afterwards. Additionally there's the danger that you end up with a dubious provider and your personal data is misused and shared. So why provide your primary email address and take risks, when thanks to the 10 minute mail you become anonymous again in no time and enjoy your full privacy? The time principle thus has two big advantages. First, it reduces the attack surface for unwanted emails, tracking and data leaks to a minimum, because your address is only valid for a short time. The manual extension gives you more time beyond the standard ten minutes when you need it. As practical as the time limit is, there are unforeseen situations where such a short time span just isn't enough. Extending is especially helpful for those registrations where multiple confirmations arrive one after another, or also with slow systems that don't react immediately.

This works completely simply and in seconds with a mouse click. We'll explain the procedure:

• As soon as the address is created, you see a timer that shows the remaining time. Best to always keep an eye on this countdown for the next ten minutes.
• During the entire period in which the address is active, a button is available to you directly under the countdown. On the button is the label '+10 Minutes'. Just click it, and the time extends!
• Your project takes a bit longer? You can also extend the address multiple times as long as it's active. This gives you plenty of flexibility if a process takes longer than planned. However, if the timer has expired, extending is no longer possible for technical reasons.
• If you don't extend, the address ends automatically when the time expires, without you having to do anything yourself. If your project is finished after five minutes for example, you can simply forget your 10minutemail: It will be deleted automatically.
